Any travelling anxiety or daily stress will melt away as you board the modern cruise boat, offering all the amenities needed, and embark on a wonderful day of leisurely exploration and frolics in the sun.

Gather on deck to admire our first stop, Poros, a small picturesque island in the Saronic Gulf, with sprawling pine forests over sandy beaches. As we dock, the town’s main attraction, a historical clock, built in 1927, will certainly catch your eye. It stands atop a cliff, overwhelmed by prickly pear and pine trees. This quiet, yet cosmopolitan, get-away destination consists of two islands, Spheria, where the main town is located, and Kalavria, named after the “gentle breeze” of the relaxing summer evenings. Feel free to explore the quaint alleyways with the whitewashed houses, as you stroll on the pier, drop by souvenir shops and take memorable shots of the scenic surroundings and the crystal blue waters.

We will then sail along to one of the jewels of the Aegean Sea, Hydra. Renowned for having banned cars and motorcycles, it offers an escape from the noise and pollution of motor vehicles as everyone gets around mostly on foot and donkeys. Small motor boats, moored in the east end of the harbor also serve as water taxis. In 2007, a panel of 522 “National Geographic Traveler” experts rated Hydra the highest of any Greek island (11th out of 111 islands worldwide) as a unique destination which preserves its “integrity of place”.

Picturesque, with well preserved stone houses and stone-cobbled narrow paths intertwining through its crescent shaped port, Hydra, or Hydria according to Herodotus, was named after its natural water springs. It is known as a haven for artists all over the world, and featured as a popular destination for jet setters in the 50s when it served as the filming location for “The Boy on a Dolphin” with Italian actress Sophia Loren. Acclaimed Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen composed some of his most well-known songs on Hydra, including “Bird on the wire”, and “So Long, Marianne”.

Next, we will stop by the land of colorful pistachio groves and the great miracle worker, Saint Nektarios, the island of Aegina! A popular holiday destination, this may be a small island but it is big on hospitality, rich in culture and ideally located as it once served as a strategic center for revolutionaries during the Greek War of Independence. In ancient years, it was an important trade center and even competed with Athens for control of the sea. Aegina boasts many attractions and during your free time of exploring the island you may even opt for activities not included in this tour and join an excursion to the Temple of Aphaia, a deity associated with fertility and the agricultural cycle.

While on board, enjoy traditional live Greek music and dance as well as Mediterranean delicacies at the savory lunch buffet. Kick back and enjoy the voyage away from the hustle of the capital and when you step back on land you’ll be feeling like a new you! For a small additional fee, we will take care of your transport to and from the port, delivering you back to your hotel lobby, rejuvenated and care-free.

Tips by a local

In the summer time, expect mostly hot weather in Greece during the day and cooler in the evening so we suggest that you choose comfortable walking shoes, sun glasses, a hat and loose clothing, especially since you will be setting sail to the open sea. Let’s not leave our accommodations without sunscreen: better safe than sorry when you are vacationing in or visiting our warm and sunny country.
